Bengaluru: Malayalees in Bengaluru can now reach their hometowns faster and conveniently, thanks to the newly launched Vande Bharat Express connecting the Silicon City to Ernakulam, which cuts travel time by around 2 hours.

The service will enhance connectivity between major IT, commercial, and educational hubs in Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

The service was flagged off earlier in the day by Prime Minister Narendra Modi alongside, Banaras–Khajuraho, Lucknow–Saharanpur, and Firozpur–Delhi trains.

The high speed train will only take 9 hours, from the other regular service that take more than 11-12 hours of journey.

The newly introduced KSR Bengaluru–Ernakulam Vande Bharat Express is the first inter-state Vande Bharat train for Kerala, linking the state directly with Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. With this addition, the Southern Railway zone will now operate 12 pairs of Vande Bharat Express trains.

Train number 26651 will depart from KSR Bengaluru City Junction at 5:10 AM and reach Ernakulam Junction at 1:50 PM, covering a distance of approximately 550 km with seven scheduled halts.

The return service, 26652 Ernakulam–Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express, departs from Ernakulam at 2:20 PM and arrives in Bengaluru at 11:00 PM.

The train will halt at 7 stations, which are as follows:

KSR Bengaluru City Jn: Departure – 05:10 AM

Krishnarajapuram: 05:25 AM

Salem Jn: 08:15 AM

Erode Jn: 09:05 AM

Tiruppur: 09:47 AM

Coimbatore Jn: 10:35 AM

Palakkad Jn: 11:30 AM

Thrissur: 12:30 PM

Ernakulam Jn: Arrival – 01:50 PM

Kottayam(Kerala) (PTI): A 33-year-old man climbed onto a parked truck carrying cooking gas cylinders and set fire to one of them near Thalayolaparambu in the small hours of Saturday, police said.

The incident occurred around 12.30 am, they said.

The fire and rescue personnel soon arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire, averting a major disaster.

According to police, the man is suspected to be under mental distress as he claimed that he was walking from Ernakulam to his home in Marangattupilly here when he saw the truck on the roadside.

An FIR under sections 329(3)(criminal trespass),324(2)(mischief),326(f)(mischief by injury, inundation, fire or explosive substance) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was lodged against him.

Police said that the man was formally arrested, but will be released on station bail as the offences he is accused of are bailable.

"His family is here at the station and he will be released to them," the officer said.

In the FIR, police have said that the man opened the seal of one of the gas cylinders and set fire to it with the knowledge that his act was dangerous to those living in the area.

According to the company transporting the cooking gas cylinders, it suffered a loss of Rs 2,300 in the incident.
