Bengaluru: Nikhil Kumaraswamy has been announced as the Janata Dal (Secular) candidate for the Channapatna Assembly constituency in the upcoming by-election. He will face off against Congress candidate C. P. Yogeshwar in the contest.
Among the three assembly constituencies where by-elections will be held in the state, the BJP has already declared its candidates for the Shiggaon and Sandur constituencies. As part of the NDA alliance, the BJP has left the Channapatna seat to its partner, the JD(S).
Nikhil's candidacy was confirmed after a coordination meeting between JD(S) and BJP leaders at the residence of B.S. Yediyurappa. Yediyurappa himself announced that Nikhil will contest from Channapatna as the NDA candidate.
