Bengaluru, July 09: Depressed over not paying him his salary for the last six months, a civic worker of BBMP committed suicide by consuming poison in Vyalikaval police station limits in the city on Sunday.

The deceased is identified as Subramanya (38) of Malleshwaram in the city. He has been working in the BBMP for the last 12 years as civic worker. But since six months, he was not given the salary. But he was being illtreated. Depressed over this, he committed suicide on Sunday late night, said family members.

Protest

Soon after the news spread, hundreds of civic workers and family members of Subramanya gathered near KC General hospital, shouted slogans against the BBMP and staged protest.

Two suspended

In view of the suicide of Subramanya, the BBMP commissioner Manjunath suspended two officers from the service. Citing their dereliction of duty, the Commissioner suspended BBMP East Zone health officer Umashankar and AEE Raju from the service.

Meanwhile, Mayor Sampath Raj visited the KC General Hospital and consoled the family members of Subramanya and announced Rs 5 lakh compensation on the spot.

Jammu (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jammu on Friday night ahead of the hectic day-long campaigning on Saturday during which he will address five public rallies in three districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Shah arrived here from Delhi and drove straight to the State Guest house, a senior BJP leader said.

Shah will fly to Poonch early tomorrow morning and address the first of four rallies in Mendhar followed by Surankote in Poonch district, he added.

Shah is scheduled to address rallies in Thanamandi and Rajouri followed by Akhnoor in Jammu.

He is also expected to hold a rally in the Nowshera constituency in support of Jammu and Kashmir BJP president Ravinder Raina on Sunday.
