Bengaluru: Minister MB Patil criticised the BJP, accusing them of using the issue of Waqf properties to play divisive politics. Patil highlighted that between 2019 and 2022, during the BJP’s tenure in Karnataka, farmers in Vijayapura district received notices regarding Waqf properties through the Waqf Board. He alleged that the BJP, which is now showing a fabricated concern for Hindu interests, ignored these issues at the time.
Taking to social media platform ‘X’ with the relevant documents, Patil responded sharply, stating, “The BJP, during its own governance, ignored development for the state and engaged in controversies around hijab, halal, and fabricated historical narratives. Now, they’re continuing these tactics under the guise of Waqf property claims. Their deceit will not work here.”

Patil also noted the recent adjustments within the BJP’s internal investigative committee, formed by state BJP president Vijayendra to investigate these issues, after criticism from BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal. The committee was reportedly restructured to include MPs like Ramesh Jigajinagi along with Yatnal, which Patil argued only underscores the party’s internal struggles. He urged the BJP to address the Waqf-related notices issued during its administration before shifting focus to other matters.
Patil further clarified that no farmer in Vijayapura district received any notice labelling their land as Waqf property, challenging the BJP to address internal issues rather than create problems that do not exist.
