Outgoing CM Bommai meets RSS leaders, discusses Karnataka poll debacle
Bengaluru (PTI): After BJP's defeat in the Assembly polls, outgoing Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday met Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders here and held discussions regarding the poll outcome and organising the party for the future.
This was Bommai's first visit to the BJP's ideological parent organisation's state headquarters 'Keshava Krupa' here after the poll results were declared on May 13.
"We have discussed the overall poll results. We have also discussed how to organise the party in the days to come with the guidance (of RSS). Our state President (Nalin Kumar Kateel) and leadership will also hold discussions, and after that we will discuss on how to organise the party in the days to come," Bommai told reporters as he emerged from the RSS office.
In the May 10 elections to the 224-member Assembly, the Congress scored an emphatic victory with 135 seats, while the ruling BJP and the former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda-led Janata Dal (Secular) secured 66 and 19, respectively.
Bommai said on Sunday that the Karnataka BJP has decided to do a detailed analysis of the overall poll results and also constituency-wise statistics, to find out the reasons for the party's poll debacle.
Rejecting the Congress's claim that it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's defeat, he said multiple factors have contributed to the party's performance and they will all be analysed; a meeting of all newly-elected members and candidates will be held soon in this regard.

PM Modi embarks on three-nation visit beginning with Jordan
New Delhi (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday embarked on a visit to Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman -- countries which enjoy civilizational ties and exceptional bilateral relations with India.
"First, I will be visiting Jordan, on the invitation of His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein. This historic visit will mark 75 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries," the prime minister said in his departure statement.
Modi will hold detailed discussions with Jordanian King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, and will also meet Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah.
In his first visit to Ethiopia, the prime minister will address the Joint Session of Parliament and share his thoughts on India's journey as the "Mother of Democracy" and the value that the India-Ethiopia partnership can bring to the Global South.
The prime minister will also hold discussions with Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and meet the Indian diaspora.
"On the final leg of my journey, I will visit the Sultanate of Oman. My visit will mark 70 years of the establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Oman," Modi said.
In Muscat, the prime minister will hold discussions with the Sultan of Oman on strengthening the Strategic Partnership as well as a strong commercial and economic relationship.
"I will also address a gathering of the Indian diaspora in Oman, which has contributed immensely to the country's development and in enhancing our partnership," Modi said.
