Bengaluru: Over 1,000 FIRs have been filed in Karnataka since March 29, when the Model Code of Conduct (MCC)for the current elections was implemented, according to the announcement made by the Election Commission on April 11.
The FIRs were for the seizure of various items, including cash, liquor, drugs, precious metals, and freebies.
The office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka revealed that the total amount of seizures during the election period was over Rs 126.14 crore, with cash seizures amounting to Rs 47 crore, liquor seizures amounting to Rs 29 crore, precious metals worth Rs 20 crore, freebies worth Rs 17 crore, and drugs/narcotics worth Rs 13 crore.
The seizures include those that took place before the May 10 Assembly polls were announced, with seizures totaling around Rs 58 crore between March 9 and March 27. Officials have registered 1,042 FIRs related to the seizures.

Palakkad (Kerala) (PTI): A Vande Bharat train operating from Ernakulam to Bengaluru sustained minor damage in a stone-pelting incident a day earlier, police said on Saturday.
The incident occurred near Parali in Palakkad district at around 4.30 pm on Friday, an officer of the Government Railway Police (GRP), Palakkad, said.
“No one was injured in the incident. One of the train’s windows suffered minor damage,” the officer said.
He added that the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has registered a case and launched an investigation.
“GRP and RPF teams are present at Parali as part of the investigation. The stones may have been thrown by a person of unsound mind or someone who was intoxicated,” the officer said.
