Ballari: Police have issued a clarification refuting rumours that Superintendent of Police Pavan Nejjur, who was suspended a day after taking charge as Ballari SP following a recent violent clash in the city, tried to commit suicide.
The clarification was issued after news spread on social media platforms as well as television news channels claiming that the SP had tried to commit suicide. after his suspension.

“Nejjur is staying at the farmhouse of one of our batchmates, and no incident of suicide has occurred at the farmhouse. Please do not spread fake news,” a senior police official said in a statement.
Pavan Nejjur had taken charge as Ballari SP on Thursday, but barely three hours later, the city witnessed a violent clash between rival Reddy groups over the installation of banners ahead of the Valmiki Jayanti celebrations. A Congress worker was killed in the clash.
The state government suspended Nejjur on Friday on the grounds that he failed to effectively handle the situation and did not properly brief senior officers about the ground situation.

Baramati (PTI): The last rites of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, killed in a plane crash, will be held with full state honours on Thursday in Baramati, Pune district.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are expected to attend the funeral, which will be held at Vidya Pratishthan ground at 11 AM. Leaders cutting across the political spectrum will be present, the Nationalist Congress Party said.
The plane crash occurred in the morning shortly after Ajit Pawar and four other persons took off from Mumbai.
Besides Pawar, his Personal Security Officer, an attendant, and two crew members (pilot in command and the first officer) were also killed.
Pawar is survived by wife Sunetra, a member of the Rajya Sabha, and two sons, Parth and Jay.
The state government declared a public holiday on Wednesday and announced a three-day period of state mourning.
