Shivamogga: In a bizarre incident, doctors at McGann Hospital surgically removed a mobile phone from the stomach of a prisoner lodged at the Central Jail in Sogane, Shivamogga.

The inmate, identified as Daulat Khan alias Gunda (30), is serving a 10-year sentence in a case. On June 24, Khan approached the prison hospital, claiming he had swallowed a stone. He was initially treated with medication.

However, when his stomach ache worsened, he was referred to the district general hospital for further examination. An X-ray scan revealed a foreign object in his stomach, which was later confirmed during surgery to be a mobile phone measuring approximately one inch in width and three inches in length.

Central Jail Superintendent P. Ranganath has filed a complaint with the Tunga Nagar police station, seeking an investigation into the incident.
