Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday urged citizens of all faiths to uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution by fostering mutual respect and religious tolerance. He was addressing the gathering at the International Milad-un-Nabi Conference, organised at Palace Grounds to commemorate the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammed.

Speaking at the event hosted by the Milad Committee, the Chief Minister said that tolerance towards all religions is a fundamental tenet of the Indian Constitution, and that it is imperative for every citizen to live by its principles.

He described Prophet Muhammed as a messenger of peace, emphasising that humanity must work collectively to uphold peace, unity, and brotherhood—ideals that lie at the heart of the Prophet’s teachings. “The preachings of the Prophet brought revolutionary changes in human history. He showed paths of justice, equality and religious harmony to the entire humanity,” The New Indian Express quoted him as saying.

In a gesture of solidarity, CM Siddaramaiah donned a cap and shawl presented by the organisers and concluded his speech with inclusive greetings: “Jai Hind, Jai Karnataka, Jai Hindu, Jai Musalman.”

Prominent political figures including Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, Energy Minister K.J. George, Chief Minister’s Political Secretary Nasir Ahmed, and MLA N.A. Haris were also present. However, Home Minister G. Parameshwara, who was listed among the invitees, was absent from the event.

Bengaluru: Vidyaranyapura police have arrested four persons, including a man posing as a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI), for allegedly breaking into a house, threatening the occupants, and extorting money while wearing police uniforms.

The arrested accused have been identified as Mallikarjuna, Pramod, Vinay, and Hrithik.

Police said the accused had hatched a plan to pose as police personnel, conduct fake raids, and extort money from residents by intimidation.

According to the police, Mallikarjuna had failed the PSI examination twice and later falsely projected himself as a PSI. He allegedly conducted photo shoots in his hometown, Siraguppa, wearing a police uniform, baton, cap, and shoes, claiming to be serving as a PSI in Bengaluru.

On December 7, the four accused allegedly went to the house of Naveen in the Vidyaranyapura limits, threatened him with a stick and an iron rod, and claimed they had information that he was selling ganja. Under the pretext of searching, they allegedly extorted ₹87,000 through bank transfer, ₹53,000 in cash kept in the house, and ₹2,000 from his wallet.

Following Naveen’s complaint, Vidyaranyapura police registered a case and launched an operation, leading to the arrest of all four accused. Police have seized ₹45,000 in cash and the car used to commit the crime.
Further investigation is underway.
