Bengaluru: "Tumakuru is growing as part of Bengaluru, and setting up an airport would be beneficial," said Home Minister G. Parameshwara.

Speaking to reporters near his residence in Sadashivanagar, he stated, "Asia's largest industrial area is being developed in Tumakuru at over 20,000 acres. The first and second phases of the project are complete, and 150 industries along with a Japan Township are coming up. HAL's helicopter factory has also started functioning, and more large-scale industries are expected. Considering all this, establishing an airport would be ideal."

Looking ahead, several new development projects are being planned for Tumakuru. The city is growing as part of Bengaluru, and there is a proposal to consider it as 'Greater Bengaluru.' Bengaluru has already expanded up to Nelamangala and Dabaspet, and there is also a proposal to extend the metro rail to Tumakuru, Parameshwara informed, adding that a formal proposal would be submitted to the government.

When asked about the case involving Union Minister Pralhad Joshi's brother, Parameshwara responded, "Isn't it necessary to take complaints seriously? Three arrests have already been made. Gopal Joshi, the accused, is absconding, and the investigation is ongoing. The police will take action according to the law."

He added that he had no information on Pralhad Joshi's involvement in the case. "Once the arrested individuals are interrogated, we will learn more. It is not appropriate to comment before the investigation is complete. Whether or not Joshi is directly involved will be revealed in due course. Nothing can be said before the report is submitted," he clarified.

In other developments, DGP Malini Krishnamurthy visited the Kalaburagi Central Prison today. "She will submit a report, and further actions will be taken based on her findings. I have directed the Director General of Police for Prisons and Correctional Services to conduct an internal review, as this is a serious matter," he concluded.

New Delhi (PTI): Space agency ISRO has successfully conducted the second integrated air drop test (IADT-02) for the upcoming Gaganyaan mission at the space station in Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota.

The system is essential to ensure a safe recovery of the crew module -- the capsule in which astronauts sit during a human flight -- during re-entry and landing.

Union minister Jitendra Singh congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for successfully conducting the test.

"Congratulations #ISRO for the successful accomplishment of Second Integrated Air Drop Test (IADT-02) for #Gaganyaan, India's first Human Space flight scheduled next year. The second Integrated Air Drop Test (IADT-02) was successfully conducted at Satish Dhawan Space Station Sriharikota," Singh said in a post on X.

The IADT-02 follows the successful completion of the first IADT, which took place on August 24, 2025, at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

Air drop tests recreate the last leg of a spacecraft's return to Earth. An aircraft or helicopter drops the spacecraft from a height to test various systems under different scenarios.

These are the deployment of the parachute system in case the mission is aborted mid-flight, system performance when one parachute fails to open and the spacecraft's orientation and safety during splashdown etc.

In the IADT-02 test, a simulated crew module, weighing about 5.7 tonnes, was lifted by an Indian Air Force Chinook helicopter to an altitude of about three kilometres and released over a designated drop zone in the sea, near the Sriharikota coast.

In a statement, the ISRO said, "Ten parachutes of four types were deployed in a precise sequence during the descent of the crew module, gradually reducing the velocity for safe touchdown. Subsequently, the simulated crew module was successfully recovered in coordination with the Indian Navy."
