Bengaluru: The court has issued a notice to the police to book Public TV head H R Ranganath and host Arun Badiger under non-bailable offense.
The notice was issued in light of a Big Bulletin episode titled “Vidyadeguladalli Dharma Yuddha”, which was broadcasted earlier on 3 February, in which the two alleged that, “This is India. India was originally created as a Hindu Rashtra.”
These allegations were accused of hurting the religious sentiments of Indian Muslims while breaking national integrity by use of prejudices. In this backdrop, a private case was filed against the two by Bandenawaz Gogi in the Additional Judicial Bailiff, Shahapur.
Taking into account the argument of the complainant’s lawyer, Mohammed Gouss, the court has directed the Gogi Police to file an FIR against the two under Sections 153(b), 505(1)(b)(c) and 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code.
“The statement made by Public TV head H R Ranganath and host Arun Badiger who claimed that India was created on the basis of Hindu Rashtra aims to incite hatred and enmity between the two communities in a democracy,” said the complainant’s lawyer Mohammed Gouss in his argument, and added that the complaint was lodged on the basis of these claims.
