Bengaluru, June 19: Food and Civil Supplies Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan said that the government is planning to increase the quantity of rice being given to the BPL beneficiaries under Anna Bhagya scheme.
Speaking to reporters at his office at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on Tuesday after holding a meeting of officials of his department, Zameer said that it was proposed to increase 2 kg rice for each person and a decision to this effect would be announced soon.
He noticed that the department has been purchasing raagi at Rs 25.47 despite it is available at Rs 19 in open market and he would verify this development, he said.
In Old Mysuru region, each beneficiary is being given 5 kg rice and 2 kg raagi. In the same way, rice and jowar is being distributed in North Karnataka and Hyderabad Karnataka. In coming days, this quantity would be increased, he said.
The centre has directed to link Aadhaar numbers with ration cards. So, provisions would be made once again to link Aadhaar numbers of family members with the ration cards. He would discuss with the officials to give six months time for this purpose, he said.

Melbourne (PTI): Three Indian students were among 40 people injured in the terrorist attack on Sydney's Bondi Beach in Australia, according to a media report on Tuesday.
Two out of these three students are believed to be receiving treatment in the hospital, The Australia Today news portal reported.
The names of the Indian students injured during Sunday's attack have not been disclosed yet.

The Indian students sustained injuries during the shooting, and their exact condition has not been formally confirmed yet, it said.
Naveed Akram, 24, and his father, 50, opened fire on a gathering during the Jewish festival Hanukkah by the Sea celebration.
At least 15 people were killed in the attack, including a 10-year-old child. Five of the injured remain in critical condition, while two injured police officers are in serious but stable condition, it added.
New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said the investigation is expanding as new information emerges, including international travel by the alleged attackers and the discovery of extremist material, the report said.
