Bengaluru: A notice by the Residents’ Welfare Association of society in Bengaluru has asked domestic workers not to use common areas including “parks, amphitheatre, gazebos” while waiting during their break time. The circular was shared by Vibin Babuurajan, a Twitter user on Wednesday, which has prompted widespread criticism on the bizarre rules set by the housing society.
The circular noted that “maids” should confine themselves to waiting areas instead of utilising the common areas. It added that the security is not able to monitor all the common areas. Furthermore, it stated the reason being that residents may feel uncomfortable when surrounded by helpers everywhere.
Shockingly, the circular made blatant class discrimination by arguing that most of the residents have stopped sitting on sofas at the building reception since “cooks, carpenters, plumbers” use it too.
This circular has sparked outrage among netizens against these absurd rules. A user expressed that this housing society needs to be schooled on discrimination and further requested the name to be shared so that people can avoid it. "The same maid roaming in your house, cooking for you, cleaning for you is ok. But seeing them around you in the park is troublesome?
Pathetic,” commented another user.
