RSS leader Sunil Ambekar condemns Nagpur violence, calls Aurangzeb 'irrelevant'
Bengaluru, Mar 19 (PTI): Condemning the recent violence in Nagpur, Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh of the RSS, Sunil Ambekar said on Wednesday that any form of violence is detrimental to the society's well-being.
He also emphasised that the 17th-century Mughal emperor Aurangzeb is no longer relevant in today's context.
Ambekar made these remarks while addressing a press meet on the RSS' upcoming three-day national meet, the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS), scheduled for March 21-23 in the city.
"Any type of violence is not good for the health of the society and I think police have taken cognizance of it and so they will get into the details," the RSS communication chief said in response to a question on the outfit's stance on the unrest.
Asked whether Aurangzeb's tomb should be relocated, he replied, " No, it's not relevant."
Violence erupted in central Nagpur on Monday, with stones hurled at police amid rumours that the holy book of a community was burnt during an agitation by a right-wing body demanding the removal of 17th century Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.
According to police, 12 policemen, including 3 DCPs, were injured in the violence. About 50 people have been arrested in connection with the stone pelting and arson so far.

French President Macron concludes Mumbai visit
Mumbai (PTI): French President Emmanuel Macron, along with First Lady Brigitte Macron, left Mumbai for New Delhi on Wednesday after concluding his engagements here, including bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
They were seen off at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport by Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde.
On Tuesday, Macron held discussions with Modi as part of efforts to further strengthen India-France strategic ties.
During the Mumbai visit, the French president and his wife also met some of India's top filmmakers and actors, and had an animated exchange with them about cinema, culture and collaboration.
President Macron is on an official visit to India from February 17 to 19 at the invitation of PM Modi to participate in the AI Impact Summit hosted by India in the national capital Delhi, besides the bilateral summit in Mumbai.
PM Modi will inaugurate the summit on February 19. As many as 20 heads of states, including French President Macron, will be present at the inaugural session, Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan said.
