Mysuru: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah, on Monday suspected role of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in the assault on senior Congress leader Tanveer Sait that took place on Sunday night.

Siddaramaiah also demanded investigation into the case by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

He was speaking to reporters in the city after visiting Tanveer Sait in Hospital on Monday evening.

“The arrested accused who attacked Sait is a member of SDPI and that is why the police suspect role of the party behind the attack. Such attacks cannot also be carried away by individuals alone without backing” Siddaramaiah said.

“The case should be thoroughly investigated by SIT and SDPI should be banned. If such attacks can be carried on representatives of people, think about what can happen to the common people. The probe should be handed over to SIT for free and fair investigation” he said.
