Sakleshpur: Seven individuals belonging to a higher caste have been booked for an atrocity case in Yeslur, Sakleshpur. The case involves the destruction of coffee and banana plants cultivated by a Dalit family, coupled with caste-based insults hurled at the family.
Venkatesh Bin Ningayya, the head of the Dalit family, was allocated 4 acres of land at the Vanaguru Estate Survey No. 43 by the government. Abhijit, Ningayya's son, had ploughed the vacant land and cultivated coffee and banana plants. However, a dispute arose regarding the land, as some locals claimed that it had been reserved for children to play.
Abhijit approached the tahsildar, revenue inspector, and village accountant, seeking a clear demarcation of the government-granted four-acre site. Despite assurances and an inspection by the revenue inspector, village accountant, and local legislator to set up a cement boundary wall, certain locals allegedly went ahead and destructed the plantation.
Expressing anger, these individuals reportedly destroyed the crops cultivated by Abhijit and subjected him and his family to caste-based insults, disregarding the authorities' involvement in the matter. Subsequently, an atrocity case has been registered at the Yeslur Police Station against the seven individuals involved in the destruction of Abhijit's crops.
