Bengaluru: Renowned actress and multilingual artist Shabana Azmi has been selected for the prestigious Kodagappa Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the 16th International Film Festival being held in Bengaluru. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made the announcement, recognizing her extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema over the past five decades.
Shabana Azmi, who made her Kannada film debut in the 1970s with Kanneshwara Rama, has won the hearts of film lovers in Karnataka. Beyond Kannada cinema, she has also made a significant mark in South Indian films and Hindi cinema, becoming one of the most celebrated and respected actresses in the country.
Acknowledging her achievements, Siddaramaiah noted that this recognition comes after nearly 50 years of her service to the arts. He added that her selection for the award further enhances the prestige of the Kodagappa Lifetime Achievement Award, which honors individuals who have made a lasting impact on Indian cinema.

Bengaluru: The Holy month of Ramadan will start from Thursday, February 19, announced convener of the State Moon Sighting Committee Maulana Maqsood Imran Rashadi on Wednesday.
Speaking at a press conference after the Moon Sighting Committee meeting held at the State Waqf Board office on Cunningham Road in the city on Wednesday evening, he said that there is no information about moon sighting anywhere in the capital Bengaluru, including other districts.
“However, after receiving reports of moon sightings in neighbouring states including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Delhi, it has been decided to start fasting from Thursday,” he said.
The meeting was attended by Maulana Mufti Iftikhar Ahmed Qasmi, Maulana Ejaz Ahmed Nadvi and other members of the ulema.
