Shivamogga: A case has been registered in Shivamogga district after a shocking incident in the Umblebailu forest range, where snakes were captured and abused for a photoshoot. Forest officials have filed an FIR against Irfan of Malalikoppa and three others.
A video that went viral on social media showed a group of youths capturing three pythons and a cobra, taping their mouths shut, and torturing them while posing for photos and videos. The cruel act drew widespread outrage.
According to the Wildlife Protection Act, the python is listed under Schedule-1 as a protected reptile. Such actions amount to a violation of the law and are treated as hunting offences.
Following the video’s circulation, forest officials raided Irfan’s house on Monday evening and seized bags containing snakes. Though Irfan claims to be a “snake expert,” officials said the truth will come out during the investigation.
