Sagar: A 36-year-old farmer, Manjunath, who was neck-deep in debt, reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself at home in Edehalli near Anandapura in the taluk on Wednesday.
Manjunath is said to have borrowed more than Rs 6 lakh from various sources including banks but could not clear the debt as the crop in his field was destroyed due to excessive rain. The farmer allegedly committed suicide as he was depressed by the loss and his inability to repay the borrowed money.
Anandapura Police have registered a case based on a complaint filed by Manjunath’s wife and are investigating the case.
(Assistance for overcoming suicidal thoughts is available on the state’s health helpline 104, Tele-MANAS 14416.)
