Shivamogga: In a shocking incident, doctors at the government hospital in Ripponpet town of Hosanagar taluk allegedly performed a post-mortem examination using the light of a mobile phone torch. This incident occurred recently when the hospital's mortuary was devoid of electricity.
The unfortunate incident unfolded after a local resident in Puramath passed away due to a heart attack. Subsequently, the body was transferred to the Ripponpet Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination. However, owing to the power outage at the mortuary, the doctors had no choice but to resort to using torchlights from their mobile phones to carry out the examination.
The local community has expressed their deep shock and anger over the power cut in the hospital mortuary. They stated that they have voiced their concerns to the elected representatives and government officials, demanding immediate action to address the issue but their pleas seem to have fallen on deaf ears as the higher authorities have shown negligence in resolving the ongoing problems faced by the hospital.

"The hospital currently operates with only two doctors during the daytime, and there is no medical staff available during the night. Despite bringing this matter to the attention of local elected representatives and government officials, no substantial action has been taken to improve the facilities at the hospital. This indicates a complete lack of concern from the higher authorities regarding the challenges we encounter," voiced the locals, urging the officials responsible to take prompt action to rectify the situation.

On December 7, the four accused allegedly went to the house of Naveen in the Vidyaranyapura limits, threatened him with a stick and an iron rod, and claimed they had information that he was selling ganja. Under the pretext of searching, they allegedly extorted ₹87,000 through bank transfer, ₹53,000 in cash kept in the house, and ₹2,000 from his wallet.
Following Naveen’s complaint, Vidyaranyapura police registered a case and launched an operation, leading to the arrest of all four accused. Police have seized ₹45,000 in cash and the car used to commit the crime.
