Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai has said that Congress leader Siddaramaiah’s comments on infighting in the BJP and ‘secret alliances’ with other parties merely reflect his panic regarding the outcome of the Assembly elections.
He was speaking to reporters on Thursday, when he was asked to comment on Siddaramaiah’s recent allegations on a BJP-JD(S) alliance in the Varuna constituency, where Siddaramaiah is the Congress candidate.
“While everyone was hoping for Congress tickets, the JD(S) fielded a former Congress candidate. Then, do we consider this a secret alliance of the Congress with the JD(S)?” Bommai mocked.
He added with confidence, “The Congress and JD(S) have joined hands in my constituency, Shiggaon, but this does not scare me. I do not indulge in making such allegations, nor do I bother about alliances as I wish to be self-dependent while contesting the elections.”
Bommai further said, “Siddaramaiah has won several elections from Varuna. So far, there was uncertainty regarding his constituency for the upcoming elections, but now, we see uncertainty for him regarding the political activities in the constituency itself.”
The CM added, “All candidates, after all, get into the fray desiring victory in the polls. Siddaramaiah too will win only if he is empowered – his victory would not depend on alliances.”

Bhopal, Jan 11: Crocodiles were rescued on Friday from a house in Sagar district in Madhya Pradesh by forest department officials who were tipped off about the presence of the reptiles by Income Tax personnel raiding the place.
Confirming the development, MP Head of Forest Force Aseem Shrivastava told PTI that a case has been registered under the Wildlife Protection Act in this regard.
The action was taken after forest department personnel were notified about the presence of crocodiles by IT sleuths, he added.
"The health of the crocodiles is being examined. We will intimate the court about them and proceed accordingly," Shrivastava added.
Shrivastava, however, did not say how many crocodiles were rescued or who was the owner of the house.
While a top IT official said searches were carried out at places connected to Rajesh Kesarwani, a bidi manufacturer, building construction contractor and former BJP corporator in Sagar, he refused to speak anything about crocodiles.
Sources put the number of reptiles rescued at four.
