Bengaluru, November 23: Telephones of former chief minister Siddaramaiah, opposition leader BS Yeddyurappa, some journalists and other leaders were being tapped, BJP leader R Ashok alleged.
Speaking to a television channel here on Friday, Ashok said that with a rumour that some Congress leaders might try to topple the coalition government, the government has been tapping the telephones. But the tapping of telephones of political leaders was not a new to the state. Then chief minister Ramakrishna Hegde had resigned from the CM post following telephone tapping allegation, he recalled.
The government should conduct proper investigation into the allegation of telephone tapping of some important leaders to know the truth. But the state government has been trying to cover up the issue, he alleged.
“I don’t know much about telephone tapping. But I would hear disturbance while speaking to phone. So, the government should conduct proper investigation”.
- Jagadish Shettar, Former Chief Minister
The Congress-JDS coalition government in the state is based on disbelief. So, it has been tapping the phones of major leaders including opposition leaders. This is not right. A probe should be conducted about it.
- CT Ravi, BJP Leader

Bagalkot: The Congress has secured a victory in the Bagalkot Assembly by-election, with its candidate Umesh Meti winning the seat after maintaining a lead from the first round of counting till the end.
The seat had fallen vacant following the death of sitting MLA H Y Meti. Umesh Meti, his son, has now been elected to the Assembly.
Party leaders attributed the victory to a combination of factors, including sympathy votes, the state government’s schemes, and campaign strategies led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and senior leader Satish Jarkiholi.
The Congress maintained a consistent lead throughout the counting process, eventually securing a decisive win in the constituency.
