Mangaluru: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Dharmasthala mass burial case has denied allegations that one of its officers, Manjunath Gowda, threatened the complainant and pressured him to withdraw his statement.

An SIT officer, speaking to The New Indian Express on condition of anonymity, said, “Nothing like this has happened. These are baseless allegations. However, we will look into it.”

The denial comes after a complaint was reportedly submitted to senior SIT officials by advocate Ananya Gowda, who is representing the complainant. In her complaint, she alleged that the incident took place on the night of August 1 at the SIT office in Belthangady. She accused Manjunath Gowda of recording a forced statement from the complainant on his mobile phone and coercing him to disown his complaint and implicate outsiders.

The advocate has also sought the officer’s removal from the investigation, stating that his continued presence could affect the complainant’s ability to speak freely.

The SIT has said it will examine the allegations.
