Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Monday indicated that the October 7 deadline for the state-wide Social and Educational Survey, conducted by the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission, may be extended.
This comes as enumeration has been completed for about 80% of the population, with some districts still lagging behind in their progress.
Parameshwara noted that while Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is actively reviewing the situation, he is unsure if the deadline will be extended by a few days to ensure full coverage. He emphasised, “It has to be completed; there’s no option for us.”
The survey, which began on September 22, aims to cover around 1.43 crore households across the state at an estimated cost of Rs 420 crore.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah criticised the opposition for their criticism of the survey, calling their stance "hypocritical." He reassured the public, saying, "This survey is not against anyone; it is in favour of everyone," and emphasised that the exercise aims to ensure equitable representation for all seven crore residents of Karnataka.
