Belagavi: Speaker U.T. Khader has directed officials to ensure that the upcoming winter session of the State Legislature, scheduled to be held from December 8 to 19 at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi, is conducted successfully and without any lapses. Presiding over a preparatory meeting at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday, Speaker Khader emphasized that the assigned staff must work with total commitment. He instructed that any logistical issues arising during the session must be brought to the notice of the concerned authorities immediately for resolution. Specific attention was drawn to preventing telecommunication and internet disruptions, ensuring the availability of necessary computer systems, and establishing a help desk to assist the public attending the session.
Regarding security and crowd management, the Speaker instructed officials to identify suitable locations for protesters and ensure they are provided with necessary facilities and police security. He also stressed the importance of smooth coordination with the police department for the distribution of entry passes to avoid confusion. While time will be allotted for school children and the general public to watch the proceedings, Speaker Khader noted that plans are being made to extend this opportunity to civic workers (Pourakarmikas), transgender persons, and women. Additionally, he directed that cultural programs be organized and arrangements be made for every MLA to plant saplings within the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha premises.
Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, who also addressed the meeting, focused on the welfare and logistics of the attendees. He directed that adequate transport and accommodation arrangements be made for Ministers, legislators, Secretariat staff, and Marshals. He specifically instructed that teams of specialist doctors be deployed at the hotels where representatives are staying, and a medical team with a fully equipped ambulance must be stationed at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha.
Furthermore, he announced that a selected team of 30 students from Rani Channamma University, Karnatak University, and Akkamahadevi University would be granted extended time to observe the legislative proceedings for educational purposes.
The meeting saw the attendance of several key dignitaries and officials, including Deputy Speaker Rudrappa Lamani, MLA Asif Sait, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan, City Police Commissioner Borase Gulabrao Bhushan, SP Dr. Bhimashankar Guled, ZP CEO Rahul Shinde, and Legislature Secretaries M.K. Vishalakshi and K.R. Mahalakshmi.

Amritsar (PTI): Former president Ram Nath Kovind on Friday said that with digital transformation, economic reforms and a strong focus on the ease of doing business, India is moving towards becoming a global economic powerhouse.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 19th edition of the Punjab International Trade Expo (PITEX) in Amritsar.
The former president said that this 19th edition of PITEX is being organised at a time when India is recognised as one of the fastest-growing large economies in the world.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the event organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) the former president, while referring to Punjab, said the state is a living example of courage, sacrifice and enterprise.
"The spiritual light of Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) inspires peace and humanity across the world. The heritage of Punjab is deep and inspiring," Kovind said, according to a statement issued by the PITEX.
The former president congratulated the PHDCCI for hosting the 19th edition of PITEX and suggested that the chamber should expand PITEX outside Punjab.
He proposed that a similar event should also be held in New Delhi.
