Kalaburagi: A suspicious death reported two months ago in Itaga village, Chittapur taluk, has now been confirmed as a murder. The police investigation revealed that the deceased's brother, Suresh Doddha Manmanta, is the prime suspect in the case.
The victim, identified as 35-year-old Kamanna Doddha Manmanta, was initially believed to have died accidentally after his body was found at the entrance of his house on July 5. The family cremated him, assuming he had fallen from the roof. However, Kamanna's mother, Parvathi, later raised suspicions about her son's death, leading her to file a complaint with the police.
Acting on the complaint, the police exhumed the body under the supervision of the Tehsildar and conducted a postmortem. The report confirmed that Kamanna's death was not accidental but the result of foul play. Consequently, the police registered a murder case on August 23 and launched a detailed investigation.
The investigation uncovered that the motive behind the murder was a property dispute. The family owned a farm in Tolamamadi village, Sedam taluk, which was sold for ₹56 lakh two months ago. Kamanna had deposited the money in his parents' names and retained some in his own account, excluding Suresh from any share. This led to a dispute between the brothers, ultimately resulting in Suresh allegedly murdering Kamanna on June 5.
The police have arrested Suresh and produced him in court, where he was remanded to judicial custody. The investigation was carried out by a team led by Kalaburagi District Superintendent of Police Addur Srinivasalu, Additional SP Srinidhi, Shahabad DySP Shankar Gowda Patil, and other officials.

Kolkata (PTI): Ratna Debnath, mother of the raped-murdered RG Kar hospital doctor and the BJP candidate from Panihati, filed her nomination papers on Thursday.
She was accompanied by senior BJP leader and former Union minister Smriti Irani and district party leaders.
Speaking to reporters after filing her nomination, she said her sole aim is to oust the TMC regime in West Bengal, which, she alleged, would ensure women's safety in the state and prevent a recurrence of incidents like the RG Kar case.
Nearly a year and a half after the brutal killing of her 26-year-old daughter inside a locked seminar room of the state-run hospital in August 2024, Debnath agreed to contest the polls on a BJP ticket from her hometown Panihati after being approached by the party "to bring to light the truth behind the crime".
She is pitted against TMC's Tirthankar Ghosh and CPI(M)'s Kalatan Dasgupta.
