Kalaburagi: The city police have arrested three interstate thieves, who were allegedly involved in robbery of jewelry worth approximately Rs 3 crore from a jewelry store in Saraf Bazaar area, City Police Commissioner Dr. Sharanappa SD has said.

The senior officer told reporters at his office that the investigation team has also seized 2.865 kg gold and cash worth Rs 4.8 lakh from the arrested men.

The arrested men are identified as Ayodhya Prasad Chauhan (48), a resident of an area within the jurisdiction limits of Gopal Nagar Police Station in West Bengal, Farooq Ahmed Malik (40), a jeweler living within the jurisdiction limits of Dadpur Police Station in West Bengal, and Sohail Sheikh also called Badshah (30), who is a tailor from Mumbai, the Commissioner has said.

Malik had allegedly stolen jewelry worth approximately Rs 3 crore from a store in the city on July 11. The five police teams formed to investigate the incident held operations in West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Telangana successfully probed the case and found Malik, Dr. Sharanappa has said, adding that the police also arrested two other suspects in earlier robbery cases and seized the gold and cash the duo had stolen.

The investigation team included Chowk Police Inspector Raghavendra, Brahmapura Inspector Somalinga, police personnel Shivananda Walikar and Bande Nawaz, the senior officer said.

New Delhi (PTI): Delhi Police announced a series of infrastructure and technology upgrades under the Safe City Project, including the expansion of surveillance systems and construction of new facilities, on the occasion of its 79th Raising Day.

Officials said that under the project, the Command and Control Centre will be further strengthened and several CCTV cameras have already been installed across the national capital. The surveillance system is equipped with advanced features such as hand-gesture recognition, facial detection and overcrowding alerts to enhance real-time monitoring.

"Mobile command vehicles will also be deployed to improve on-ground coordination during emergencies and major events," a senior police officer said.

The Special Cell headquarters will be constructed in Lodhi Colony to bolster operational efficiency. In addition, three new police stations and six police chowkis will be set up.

A seven-floor hostel for women police personnel will be built in Rohini, with accommodation capacity for 132 staff members, officials said.
