Davangere, August 9: District Crime Branch on Thursday arrested three women on charges of kidnapping minor girls and pushing them to prostitution and rescued a minor girl. With this, the police busted a flesh trade racket which was active in the district.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, SP R Chethan said that the arrested women were identified as Geeta (33), Anitha alias Kavya (34) and Roopa (28). They were kidnapping minor girls in Davangere, Gadag and other places and pushing them to prostitution. By luring the innocent girls from bus stands or railway stations or kidnapping them, the accused have been forcing them to prostitution to make fast bucks. One among such minor girls was suffering from AIDS, he said.
All the three accused belong to Davangere district and it is suspected that the team might have more persons. The police have been trying to trace the main accused Shivu and another person. The accused had involved in the same business earlier and were arrested. Later, after they were released on bail from the court, they have once again started their old business, the police said.

Thiruvananthapuram (PTI): Celebrations erupted across Kerala on Thursday after V D Satheesan was selected by the Congress High Command as the next Chief Minister of the state.
Satheesan was at the Contonment House in Thiruvananthapuram, the official residence of the Leader of the Opposition, when AICC leaders announced it in New Delhi.
Soon after the announcement, jubilant Satheesan supporters burst firecrackers and distributed sweets in several parts of the state.
Paravur in Ernakulam district, the Assembly constituency he has represented since 2001, witnessed large-scale celebrations.
Satheesan was widely seen as the frontrunner for the post, with UDF allies also backing his candidature during the selection process.
As the Leader of the Opposition in the outgoing Assembly, he led the UDF both inside and outside the House.
Apart from Satheesan, senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala and Congress MP K C Venugopal were also considered for the post.
