Chikkamagaluru: Deputy Commissioner of the district Dr. Bagadi Gautam has appealed tourists visiting tourist spots in Chikkamagaluru to postpone their tour plants till April 15 amid fears of coronavirus spreading in the state.
Addressing a press conference in the city on Monday, he said that tourists visiting the religious and tourist spots of Mullayanagiri, Kallathigiri, Kemmanagundi, Dattapeeta, Sringeri, Horanadu, in the district should postpone their tour as a safety measure. Inspections would be held at Kaimar check post, located on the way to Mullayanagiri and Baba Budangiri, and tourists would be convinced to halt their tour, he said.
“So far, no cases of coronavirus have been found in the district. Throat swab and blood samples of two suspects who had returned from abroad were sent to the Hassan laboratory and they have tested negative” DC Dr. Bagadi Gautam informed.
Precautionary measures have been taken up in the district to contain coronavirus spread. Awareness programmes are being conducted in the district. A special ward of 38 beds has been opened up in the district. Six teams consisting of officials from various departments have been formed, he informed.

Mandya: A purported video of sangh parivar activists who were on their way to a 'Sankirtana Yatra' organised as part of Hanuman Jayanti in Srirangapatna on Sunday, intercepting Muslim youths travelling on bikes and threatening them to chant 'Jai Shri Ram' has gone viral on social media platforms, prompting the police to registered a suo motu case in this regard.
According to reports, the incident took place near Sundahalli on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway in Mandya taluk.
The purported video shows three Muslim youths riding a bike near the underpass service road of the highway being surrounded by Sangh Parivar activists who were going on a Sankirtana Yatra and were forced to chant 'Jai Shri Ram'.
In the wake of outrage over the incident, the Mandya Rural Police have registered a suo motu case against the accused under BNS 189(2), 126(2), 196, 352, R.V 190.
According to the FIR, around 8-10 unknown persons have reportedly committed the crime.
