Tractor carrying idol during Madikeri Dasara procession collapses midway; 3 injured
Madikeri: In an accident that took place during the historic Dasara 'shobhayatra' in Madikeri early Wednesday morning, three people were injured as the tractor carrying the Dashamantapa toppled during the procession.
The tractor was carrying the pandal of Chowti Mariyamma of Kundurumotte, who is one of the four 'Shakti' deities worshipped in Madikeri town, and fell by the road near the DCC Bank at around 3 am on Wednesday, much to the anxiety and tension of the thousands of onlookers standing by the road.
The idols as well as gigantic lighting boards were thrown on the road as a result of the accident.
The three injured people are being treated at the district hospital in Madikeri.

Two killed as bus hits motorbike
Thane (PTI): Two young men were killed and another was seriously injured when a speeding bus rammed into their motorcycle in Mumbra area of the city on Tuesday evening, police said.
The victims, all residents of Thakur Pada, were riding from Roshni Mahel toward Y Junction.
"The motorcycle was hit from behind by a bus driven by Mustafa Hussain Sheikh (58). The two-wheeler got dragged under the front wheel of the bus," said a traffic police official.
Sangam Rajesh Pulshare (21) and Avinash Ramdas Davande (19) died while Mahesh Bhagwan Vare (18) sustained serious injuries.
The bus driver was detained and a case was being registered at the Mumbra police station, said the official.
