Tumakuru: Social activist M B Panchaksharaiah has said that a complaint has been filed with the Central and State Election Commissions in the background of voters’ names being omitted from the list in the Tumkur City Vidhana Sabha constituency without prior notice.
In his statement released to the press, he has said, “During January 2022, the district election branch had published a draft of voters’ list, which had left out the names of 18,533 voters, without providing any prior notice to the concerned voters. In the background of the district administration and district election branch filing a complaint with the State Election Commission about the growing number of bogus voters in 2018, and due to the massive abandonment of voters, a complaint has been filed with the Central and State Election Commissions.”
He has further accused that, in the period from 2013 to 2017, names of more than 3,865 repeat voters were removed from the list. “From 2018 to 2022, up to 18,533 voters’ names were omitted from the list. There are possibilities of 10,000 to 15,000 names being removed from the voters’ list by January of 2023,” the activist added.
“In 2017-18, a team led by Sogadu Shivanna fought against inclusion of the names of bogus voters. When he mentioned that there were more than 3,600 voters then, how would there have been 18, 533 voters in the period from 2018 to 2022? In this regard, the concerned authorities have not provided any clarification so far. In the draft list published at present, the election branch has revealed that there are 2,40,918 voters, and the same list would be used even in January of 2023,” Panchaksharaiah said.
“No political party pays attention to the matter. According to the current population statistics, Tumkur City has a population of 3.5 to 4 lakh. But no political party is taking the initiative to raise their voice on this issue. Therefore, since there are high possibilities of voters’ names being removed from the list in large numbers, a complaint has been filed with the Central and State Election Commissions,” he stated.

"Bodies of all four workers were dug out of debris during a rescue operation," Putki police station in-charge Waqar Hussain told PTI.
The incident took place when coal slurry was being loaded into trucks by workers, during which a large chunk of slurry fell and trapped several workers underneath, officials said.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased and local villagers placed the bodies in front of the washery gate and began a protest.
