Chennai: A 38-year-old software engineer, Karthikeyan, allegedly electrocuted himself at his residence in Thazhambur, near Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR), on Thursday night. His wife, Jayarani, discovered his body after returning from a temple visit, according to police reports.

Karthikeyan, originally from Theni, had been working at a software firm in Pallavaram for 15 years. He lived with his wife and two children, aged 10 and 8. Police revealed that Karthikeyan had been struggling with depression due to work-related stress and had been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Medavakkam for the past two months.

Earlier in the week, Jayarani had left for a trip to Thirunallaru temple with friends, leaving her children with her mother. When she returned home on Thursday night, she found the door locked from the inside. After receiving no response to her knocks, she used a spare key to enter the house, where she found her husband unconscious, wrapped in electrical wires connected to the main junction box.

Neighbours were alerted, and they informed the Thazhambur police. Police arrived at the scene and sent Karthikeyan’s body for post-mortem to Chromepet Government Hospital. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating possible underlying causes.
