Tumakuru: The Karnataka Police have arrested two women, aged 23 and 27, on charges of honey trapping a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in Tumakuru.
According to a report by The Indian Express, BJP leader Annappa Swamy claimed that he was befriended by one of the women on Facebook, who introduced herself as a beautician. Their conversations later shifted to a land deal, and intimate exchanges followed.
Swamy alleged that the woman threatened to expose their conversations unless he met her in person. They then met at a lodge, where consensual sex took place, but the accomplices of the woman recorded them, the report added.
The suspects allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs 20 lakh, threatening to release the recordings. The complainant has alleged that after paying Rs 70,000, he was allowed to leave with the agreement to pay the remaining amount later.
Ashok K V, Superintendent of Police, Tumakuru, said that although the women have been arrested, two male collaborators of the accused were absconding.
Police official suggested that Swamy, being a wealthy individual, was targeted by the gang for the honey trap.
