Belagavi: Two young men in their twenties were hacked to death using lethal weapons in Sulebhavi village of Belagavi taluk on Thursday night.
The victims of the crime were Mahesh Murari (26) and Prakash Ningappa Hunkripatil (24). Both of them were residents of Sulebhavi, said sources.
It is also learned that the duo was standing near the Shivaji statue in the village on Thursday night when a group of men arrived at the spot, attacked and killed both the men.
A case has been registered at the Marihala Police Station. City Police Commissioner Dr Boralingayya and DCP Ravindra Gadadi are investigating the matter.
The reason for the crime is yet to be confirmed.

Mumbai, May 17 (PTI): Mumbai Police received an email threatening to blow up the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in the city and Hotel Taj Mahal Palace with a bomb but it turned out to be a hoax, an official said on Saturday.
The email was received at the email address of the Airport Police Station on Friday morning, he said.
A thorough search was conducted at the airport as well as the luxury hotel located in suburban Santacruz but nothing suspicious was found, the police official said.

A case was registered against an unidentified person for criminal intimidation, public mischief and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and further probe was underway, the official said.
