Udupi: Udupi District Superintendent of Police, Akshay Hakay Machindra, has addressed rumors and false messages circulating on social media regarding an alleged incident of filming in a mobile phone inside the toilet of Para Medical College in Udupi. In a press conference held at the Udupi SP office, he clarified that no hidden camera has been found in the college restroom and no complaints have been received by the department regarding the alleged video.
According to SP Akshay Hakay Machindra, the mobile phones seized from the students at the college were handed over to the police by the management board. After a thorough examination, no video related to the alleged incident was found on the phones. The police have also monitored social media platforms but have not come across any viral video in connection with the college incident. Some unrelated videos taken in different situations have been falsely linked to the college incident, with edited voices to mislead the public.
Notably, neither the affected student nor the college administration has lodged a police complaint in this regard. The police have not received any video evidence that would prompt them to initiate an investigation independently. SP Akshay Hakay Machindra appealed to the public that if anyone possesses the alleged video, they should come forward and provide it to the police for appropriate action.
Regarding an allegation of police harassment against Rashmi Sawant, who had tweeted about the issue, the SP clarified that the tweet was made from a fake account. The police contacted the user of the fake account to inform them that the content of the tweet was false, and they had no intention of troubling anyone.
The college management has already taken disciplinary action against the students involved in the incident based on the college's rules. The victim student, in the presence of their mother, has confirmed that the video was made for fun and immediately deleted after showing it to them, as conveyed to the college management.

Gangtok (PTI): A total of 135 stranded tourists have been rescued by the Army from North Sikkim, where multiple landslides have snapped road connectivity, officials said on Thursday.
Around 1,000 tourists remain stranded in Lachen, with sustained efforts underway to ensure their rescue at the earliest, they said.
The rescue operation is being carried out by the Trishakti Corps under the Eastern Command amid heavy snowfall, they added.
Critical passes have been opened and alternate routes activated to facilitate the rescue mission, named 'Operation Him Setu', officials said.
A total of 32 light vehicles and 10 motorcycles have been moved out so far, with Army vehicles deployed to tow civilian vehicles across steep, snowbound stretches, they said.
Medical emergencies and those requiring immediate assistance are being prioritised, officials said.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is working in close coordination with the Army, undertaking continuous road clearance, snow removal and restoration of connectivity despite challenging terrain and weather, they said.
"Our foremost priority is the safety and well-being of every citizen. Our teams remain committed to providing all necessary assistance on the ground," an Army official said.
Multiple landslides have disrupted road connectivity between Lachen and Chungthang, an area close to the India-China border.
