Hubballi: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has come down hard on Siddaramaiah for the demand by the leader of the Opposition to ban the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
The chief minister, who was addressing reporters in the city on Thursday, called it ‘unfortunate’ that Siddaramaiah was making such a demand.
“The Congress has no right to question the ban on the Popular Front of India (PFI), since the party members had themselves withdrawn cases against the organization. Now, as eyewash against such a move, they are demanding a ban on the RSS,” said Bommai.
“The Congress has failed at specifying or explaining why the RSS should be banned, since the organization has helped build several institutions for the backward classes of society. The members of the RSS have also helped provide relief to people struggling in times of natural disaster like floods. The RSS has always helped spread a sense of patriotism,” the chief minister said.
Bommai, however, refused to comment on the election to the post of the Congress president, calling it an internal matter of the Congress.
