Bengaluru, Dec 5: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy distributed taxi and goods vehicles given by the Karnataka Minority Development Commission, to 167 minority beneficiaries.

Flagging off the distribution of vehicles at a programme in front of the Vidhana Soudha here on Wednesday, the CM wished good luck for the beneficiaries and asked them to build self-reliant life.

Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, MLA NA Harish, MLCs Naseer Ahmed, Rizwan Arshad and Urdu Academy president Mubeen Munawar and others were present.

Rs 3 lakh subsidy

The government would provide Rs 3 lakh subsidy to minority candidates to purchase taxi and goods vehicles. The applicants could get the subsidy through bank loans, he said.

Eligibility

The candidates should belong to minority community and permanent resident of the state. Their annual income should not exceed more than Rs 4.5 lakh and candidates should be between 18 and 45 years. The candidates should have Aadhar card, election identity card and ration card. No family member of the candidate should be the employee of either state or central government. They should have driving license and badge issued by the RTO.

"I have been working as car driver for the last 10-15 years. But the earning was not sufficient to lead my family. So I have planned to have my own car. Now the Minority Development Corporation fulfilled my dream. With the help of Rs 3 lakh subsidy, I have purchased the car".

Dhanbad (Jharkhand) (PTI): At least four workers died after being buried under coal slurry in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district on Saturday, a police official said.

The incident took place at Moonidih coal washery in the command area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).

"Bodies of all four workers were dug out of debris during a rescue operation," Putki police station in-charge Waqar Hussain told PTI.

The incident took place when coal slurry was being loaded into trucks by workers, during which a large chunk of slurry fell and trapped several workers underneath, officials said.

The deceased have been identified as Manik Bauri, Dinesh Bauri, Deepak Bauri, and Hemlal Gope.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased and local villagers placed the bodies in front of the washery gate and began a protest.

They demanded compensation, jobs for dependents and action against those responsible for the incident.

Police and administration officials are trying to pacify the protesters, an official said.
