Bengaluru: Condemning the episode that occurred during Republic Day when the Raichur district judge Mallikarjuna Gowda Patil asked for the removal of Dr. B. R Ambedkar’s portrait thus insulting the ‘Father of the Constitution, Samvidhana Samrakshana Vedike Maha Okkuta undertook the ‘Vidhana Soudha Chalo’ march on Saturday and demanded the suspension of the accused judge. 

The ‘Vidhana Soudha Chalo’ march which is to commence from the City Railway station will reach the Vidhana Soudha via the Anand Rao Circle, it is learned.

Judge Mallikarjuna Gowda Patil must be suspended effective immediately and a lawsuit must be undertaken against him under the prevention of SC-ST exploitation act, the protesters demanded. 

“Dr. B. R Ambedkar’s portrait must be mandatorily installed in all the courts. People from the SC-ST, backward communities, minorities, and women must be given priority during the time of appointment of judges”, Dalit organizations demanded, and under their leadership, the ‘Vidhana Sabha Chalo’ was undertaken.

Bengaluru (PTI): Veteran Congress leader Shamanuru Shivashankarappa passed away at a private hospital here on Sunday due to age-related ailments, official sources said.

He was 95 and represented the Davanagere South Assembly constituency. He had been undergoing treatment at the hospital for some time.

Shivashankarappa is survived by three sons, including S S Mallikarjun, Karnataka Minister for Mines and Geology and Horticulture, and four daughters.

His daughter-in-law, Prabha Mallikarjun, is the Member of Parliament from Davanagere.

A former minister, Shivashankarappa, served as treasurer of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) for several decades and was the president of the All India Veerashaiva Mahasabha, the apex body of the influential Veerashaiva-Lingayat community.

He was also a noted educationist who established several educational institutions and was an industrialist.
