Mandya: In an incident reported from Mandya district, a village accountant has been accused of cheating a woman after taking bribe from her. The woman reportedly hailed from Lalanakere village in Nagamangala taluk. T
The accused, identified as Ningappa Surapura, allegedly received a bribe of Rs 66,000 from the victim, Meenakshi, promising to open a land khata (property document) for her.
Meenakshi, a resident of Lalanakere, approached Surapura approximately a year ago to initiate the transfer of ownership of her father-in-law Chunchegowda's land to her husband and brother-in-law. The village accountant demanded money from Meenakshi, starting with the issuance of the death certificate, to carry out the required paperwork. However, despite receiving the amount in multiple installments, Surapura failed to fulfill his promise and complete the necessary work. Meenakshi has also alleged that he made her run from pillar to post for the khata over the past year.
Upon receiving a complaint from Meenakshi, the Mandya deputy commissioner initiated action against Surapura. The revenue inspector of Bindiganavile conducted an investigation into the matter, thoroughly examining the relevant documents. Based on their findings, a report was submitted to the deputy commissioner.
In response, the deputy commissioner issued a showcause notice to Surapura, summoning him to provide an explanation for his actions. However, it has been reported that the village accountant has been absent from work for a week, evading the authorities.
