Mysuru: The CCB Police arrested on Thursday Maulvi Mufti Mushtaq, a suspect in the recent incident of attack on the Udayagiri Police Station, under charge of making a provocative speech in relation to the incident.

The number of arrests in the case has risen to 17 with the arrest of Maulvi Mufti Mushtaq.

An allegedly derogatory comment made recently on social media on Prophet Muhammed and an offensive video of Mahatma Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi had given rise to the tension at Udayagiri. Although the police officers had registered a suo motu case and arrested the person responsible for the post, a protest was held outside the police station.

The situation tensed up as the men demanded strict penal action against the person who had posted the comment, resulting in the group pelting stones at the police station.

The CCB Police, who had registered a case and investigated the matter, had arrested 16 men involved in the incident so far.

As further investigation revealed that Maulvi Mufti Mushtaq had made a provocative speech on the occasion, with a video clip of his speech going viral on social media, the CCB Police have now held him in relation to the Udayagiri case.

Mumbai (PTI): Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Rajat Patidar, Phil Salt and Virat Kohli blasted half-centuries as the defending champions beat Mumbai Indians by 18 runs in an Indian Premier League match here on Sunday.

Salt (78 off 36 balls) and Kohli (50 off 38 balls) stitched together a 120-run stand for the opening wicket before Patidar scored a rapid 53 off just 20 balls as RCB posted 240 for 4.

In response, Mumbai Indians were restricted to 222 for 5, with RCB spinner Suyash Sharma (2/47) putting the skids on the home side with a double strike in the eighth over, from which they could not recover.

Sherfane Rutherford top-scored for MI with an unbeaten 71 off 31 balls.

While opener Rohit Sharma appeared to be struggling with a hamstring issue and had to retire hurt on 19, his partner Ryan Rickelton made 37, while Suryakumar Yadav (33) and Hardik Pandya (40) were the other contributors for MI.
