Hubballi: Former Chief Minister of Karnataka Jagadish Shettar, who resigned from the BJP on Saturday, has said that he would not withdraw his resignation as legislator and BJP member.

“I don’t expect any miracle at the eleventh hour with regard to the party ticket to contest the forthcoming Assembly elections. Even if we witness such a major change in the party decision, I will not change my decision,” Shettar told reporters on Sunday morning.

He said that he would meet Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri at his residence in Sirsi today and hand his resignation as legislator. “I will also resign from the primary membership to the BJP soon after,” he added.

Shettar confirmed that he would contest the Assembly polls that will be held in May. “I will discuss the matter with my supporters before taking further decisions,” he said.

Expressing his ire at ‘ill-treatment’ at the hands of the BJP High Command, the former CM said, “Amit Shat and Narendra Modi are completely unaware of ground realities in the party here. The party leaders in the state and the BJP Karnataka In-charge seem to be adamant about ensuring that the BJP does not retain power in the state.”
