Woman in Mandya poisons three children, commits suicide, after fight with husband

Mandya: A woman committed suicide by hanging herself at home in Holebeedi of Maddur town, after poisoning her three children, on Thursday evening.

The deceased are Usma Kausar, 32, wife of Aqeel Ahmed car mechanic and resident of Holebeedi, and their son Haris, 8, and daughters Aliza, 4, and Anam Fatima, 2.

A family fight was the reason for Usma’s move, police sources have said.

The family lived in a rented house in Holebeedi. Since there had been frequent clashes between the couple recently, their seniors are learned to have advised the duo to resolve matter peacefully.

On Thursday, however, when Aqeel Ahmed was at work, Usma poisoned her children and also killed herself, said sources. The matter came to light when Usma’s mother visited the house late Thursday night.

Maddur Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.

Youth Cong leader killed in Karnataka's Dharwad

Dharwad (PTI): A Youth Congress leader was allegedly killed by unidentified assailants after barging into his residence in the city, police said on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Fairoz Pathan, they said.

The incident took place at his house in the Hashminagar area on late Friday, creating panic among local residents.

Police said that four unidentified assailants barged into his house and attacked him with lethal weapons.

After committing the crime, the accused fled from the spot. The entire act has been captured on nearby CCTV cameras, providing crucial leads for the investigation, a senior police officer said.

Upon receiving information, police from the Sub-Urban Police Station rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. The exact reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, he said.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the accused.
