Belagavi: A shocking incident was reported from Kamaladini village in Mudalagi taluk, where the decomposed body of a woman was found hidden inside the storage box of a bed at her residence on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Sakshi, wife of Akash Sadashiv Kambar (24), a resident of Maddi Plot in Kamaladini. According to police, Akash allegedly murdered his wife and hid her body inside the bed box before switching off his mobile phone and fleeing from the house.
The incident came to light when Akash’s mother returned home on Wednesday evening and noticed a foul smell. Upon opening the bed box, she discovered Sakshi’s decomposed body.
Following the discovery, Gokak DySP Ravi Nayak, CPI Shreeshail Byakood, and PSI Raju Pujeri visited the spot and conducted an inspection. A search operation has been launched to trace the absconding husband.
Police sources said that Akash and Sakshi were married on May 24, 2025, and lived together with Akash’s parents. During the incident, Akash’s mother Shobha had reportedly gone to her hometown. However, it is unclear what Akash’s father, Sadashiv, who was present in the house, was doing until the body was discovered, raising serious questions.
Meanwhile, Sakshi’s family members have lodged a complaint at the Mudalagi Police Station, alleging that she was being harassed for dowry by her husband Akash, mother-in-law Shobha, father-in-law Sadashiv, relatives Nadini and her husband Anand, and a local resident Kadesh Navi.
Locals have claimed that Akash was seen in the village on Tuesday evening. The police are investigating to determine the precise cause and motive behind the murder.

Bengaluru (PTI): Power bills for consumers under the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) will go up from May 1, following an order issued by the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) on Friday.
The hike comes after KERC allowed the BESCOM to recover a revenue deficit of Rs 2,068 crore incurred in 2024-25, from the consumers.
As a result, for every unit of electricity consumed in 2024-25, the customers will be charged an additional 56 paise, it said.
"BESCOM shall calculate, for each of the active consumers of FY2024-25 the amount to be recovered based on their actual energy consumption during FY2024-25. Such amount shall be recovered during FY 2026-27 in equal monthly instalments, to be called as 'FY25 True up Charges', commencing from the first meter reading date falling on or after 1 May 2026 and concluding with the reading date ending on 30 April 2027," the order said.
"It is further ordered that BESCOM shall maintain a separate head of account, allocated for the purpose, to record the adjustment of the said amount to ensure full recovery of the deficit," it added.
Similarly Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC) has also recorded a revenue deficit of Rs 121.71 crore and can collect an additional 15 paisa per unit for consumption in 2024-25, official sources said.
