Bengaluru: Congress MLA and former minister Vinay Kulkarni, accused in the Yogesh Gowda murder case, surrendered before the Special Court for People's Representatives today (Friday), following the Supreme Court’s cancellation of his bail.
The apex court had recently revoked the bail granted to Kulkarni in the 2016 murder case of BJP leader Yogesh Gowda and ordered him to surrender within a week. Acting on this directive, Kulkarni appeared before the special court, which subsequently ordered that he be taken into CBI custody.
Yogesh Gowda, a prominent BJP leader from Dharwad, was murdered in May 2016. Vinay Kulkarni was named as the prime accused in the case. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court on August 11, 2021.
However, the CBI filed a petition before the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of Kulkarni's bail, citing that he and another accused were allegedly trying to influence witnesses by offering bribes up to ₹1 lakh, violating the conditions of bail.
Taking cognizance of these allegations, the Supreme Court cancelled Kulkarni’s bail and directed him to surrender before the trial court.
