Bengaluru, September 26: Chikkajala police on Wednesday arrested an accused in the murder of Youth Congress Yelahanka Block president Arun Kumar, by shooting him.
Accused Manoj alias Kempa who sustained injuries in the firing, is undergoing treatment at Victoria hospital and the Yelahanka police arrested his friend Manje Gowda.
Manoj has been facing cases in kidnapping, attempt to murder and assault incidents in various police stations in the city. Acting on a tip-off that the accused were going in a car on the service road in the Chikkajala police station limits, Yelahanka ASI Manje Gowda and Vidyaranyapura SI Ramamurthy and their teams stopped the car. When the police tried to catch the accused, Manoj tried to escape after attacking the police. In turn, the police fired in the air and warned him to surrender. But he tried to attack the police, it is said.
In an attempt of self defence, the police fired at him who collapsed after sustaining hand and leg injury. Suddenly, the police cordoned him and admitted to the hospital. Another accused Manje Gowda was also arrested.
Head constable Uday Kumar and constable Mahadeva Murthy sustained injuries in the incident and are getting treatment, a police officer said.

Chennai (PTI): Tamil Nadu class XII board exam results were released on Friday and 95.03 per cent of students who wrote the exams registered a pass this year.
Releasing the results, the School Education Department officials here said that Erode district registered the highest pass percentage of 98.87, followed by Sivaganga district with 98.05 per cent. With 95.43 per cent of pass, Chennai figured in the 20th position.
This year, the girls outshine the boys by securing a pass percentage of 97. Boys could secure only 93.19 per cent.
Of the 7,536 higher secondary schools, the officials said that a total of 2,639 private schools and 489 government schools have secured 100 per cent pass percentage.
Accordingly, of 7,91,654 students who took the exams, as many as 7,53,694 have secured passing marks. The overall pass percentage of the Science stream was 96.90, while the pass percentage among Commerce group students was 92.67.
