New Delhi: A plea was Tuesday filed in the Supreme Court challenging the Karnataka High Court verdict which dismissed pleas seeking permission to wear Hijab inside the classroom, saying Hijab is not a part of the essential religious practice in Islamic faith.

The Karnataka High Court has suggested the possibility of some 'unseen hands' behind the hijab row to engineer social unrest and disharmony.

 Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday said everyone should abide by the verdict of the High Court on the Hijab row, and cooperate with the state government in implementing it.

With the Karnataka High Court upholding the state government's decision on restrictions on hijab inside classrooms, the the Primary and Secondary Education Minister B C Nagesh on Tuesday said we will try to win the hearts of the 'misguided' Muslim girls who are against the move, and 'bring them in the mainstream of education'.

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday pronounced the judgement in the judge hearing and said wearing the Hijab is not an essential religious practice in Islam.
