About 6 per cent of the electorate cast their votes Saturday in the first two hours of polling for the by-elections to three Lok Sabha and two assembly constituencies in Karnataka.

Ramnagar: Voting process at a polling booth in Mottedoddi of Ramanagar was temporarily stalled after a snake was found inside the polling center.

Shimoga: The voting process has begun in Shimoga, Mandya, Bellary districts for Lok Sabha; and two assembly seats of Jamkhandi and Ramanagar. However, even after two-and-half hour passed, the voting process is yet to begin at Nelagalale Village in Shimoga district.

Voting for the bypolls to the three Lok Sabha and two assembly constituencies in Karnataka began on Saturday, which is seen as a litmus test for the ruling Congress-JDS coalition.

Five juvenile accused escaped from the Juveniles Rehabilitation Centre of Madiwala in the city. When the accused were left free in the centre premises on Friday morning for breakfast, the accused planned to escape from the centre. They have assaulted the security personnel and escaped. Security personnel Ramesh who sustained injuries was admitted to a local hospital.
