Chikkamagaluru (Karnataka): Three people sustained minor injuries as they fell down due to the slippery route because of rain when they were on the way to Deviramma hill temple here, a police officer said on Friday.

A 29-year-old woman, Jyothi, who was a resident of the Sangameshwara Colony in the city, was allegedly murdered and her body set on fire, in an incident reported from Itaga village of Kalaburagi taluk.

A large number of devotees thronged to the Deviramma temple on Thursday to have a glimpse of the presiding deity, Bindiga Deviramma, which is accessible to devotees only on Naraka Chaturdashi. The journey to the temple, located on a 3,000-foot hill, was challenging and resulted in numerous slips and falls, leading to injuries among the crowd.

Members of the Kalyana Karnataka Pratyeka Rajya Horata Samiti, who staged a protest in the city on Friday morning demanding a separate state, were taken into custody by the police.

District In-Charge Minister Sharanabasappa Gowda Darshanapura stated that there are no disputes regarding Waqf properties in the district. Newspapers have reported speculative news on the matter, he further said.
