Padma Shri awardee Saalumarada Thimmakka, 114, passes away

Saalumarada Thimmakka, the celebrated environmentalist and Padma Shri awardee, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the age of 114. Fondly known as “Vrukshamate” (Mother of Trees), she was revered for her lifelong commitment to afforestation and ecological conservation.
