Facebook shuts down three of its apps
San Francisco, July 3: Facebook has announced it is shutting down its fitness app "Moves", Android app "Hello" and anonymous social media app "tbh".
Facebook is deprecating these apps due to low usage, the company wrote in a blog post late on Monday.
Launched in 2014, the fitness app "Moves" was curated to record the daily physical activities of users, including walking, cycling and running. The app would be put to halt on July 31.
The social-networking giant launched "Hello" in 2015 for Android users in Brazil, the US and Nigeria, enabling them to combine information from Facebook with contact information on their phone. "Hello" would shut down in "in a few weeks."
Facebook's product manager Nikita Bier co-founded "tbh", an abbreviated millennial slang expanding into "to be honest" as an anonymous social media app for high school students in the US. The app was later acquired by Facebook in 2017 and is expected to be put to rest in the coming weeks.
"We know some people are still using these apps and will be disappointed - and we'd like to take this opportunity to thank them for their support," the post added.
Facebook claimed that the user data from all the three apps would be deleted within 90 days.

Right-wing supporter, Journalist Swathi Chandrashekar joins Congress, appointed spokesperson
Bengaluru: In a recent development, journalist Swathi Chandrashekar, alongside two-time MP Sanganna Karadi and three-time MLA from Belagavi Rural Shivaputra Malagi, officially joined the Congress party on Wednesday. The event took place in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
Swathi Chandrashekar, whose Facebook profile identifies her as the Delhi Bureau Head of TV5 News, was also appointed as the spokesperson of the party shortly after her induction.
However, a closer examination of her background and social media activity revealed her previous affiliation as an active supporter of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, indicating her alignment with right-wing ideologies.
Chandrashekar's social media posts have showcased her support for senior BJP leader LK Advani, Prime Minister Modi, and her close association with BJP MP and party’s Yuva Morcha Chief Tejasvi Surya, known for his staunch Hindutva stance.
The appointment of Swathi Chandrashekar as the spokesperson of the Congress party, despite her prior allegiance to the BJP, has sparked debate across local social media platforms. Many users have criticized the party for the decision, questioning the rationale behind appointing someone with a history of supporting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and BJP leaders.
